Does anyone know the model number of the distributor for the TE21 - is it a Lucas DM6A ... or something like that? Thanks, Mike Posted by Mikee 12/09/2012 21:05:01

The Luminition kit I bought (specified for a 25D) doesn't fit. Does my distributor look like the standard one for a TE21? The car spent a lot of time in Malayasia before I got it, and I'm gradually finding more and more non-standard stuff on it. II've put some photos up on Flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/78449259@N ... 603219035/ Thanks, Mike Posted by Mikee 23/09/2012 14:07:14

Michael, If you distributor needs some attention www.distributordoctor.com is the place to send it. Run by a bloke called Martin Jay. Top quality work, but there is a 2 month long queue normally. Mike Your dizzy is not a 25D looks like a DM6 as fitted to TD 1 & 11.so you may have had an older engine fitted .The simplest way to confirm if the engine is TE spec is to check the head part no. which is on top of the casting it should be C10135 if it is C9176 then you have a TD. Genuine TEs also tend to have had the vacuum advance removed or blocked. You should replace the rotor arm and change the plug leads to copper wire, get the former from CPrince or Dist Dr and the latter from a decent factor. Why are you fitting electronics anyway ? Thanks again, Peter. The head is 10129 - do you know what that means? It was a replacement for one I took off the car about 3 years ago. I still have the old head (it's cracked) and that is 10129 as well. Thanks also to Angus - a couple of others have also recommended Distrubution Dr. Posted by Mikee 24/09/2012 21:08:07

[quote="Peter Martin":1ndxv07a] change the plug leads to copper wire[/quote:1ndxv07a] Hi Peter, I'm interested to read this suggestion, please excuse my ignorance, but what's the theory behind it? Thanks, Paul. Posted by pryantcc 25/09/2012 08:31:27

Oops I meant to write C10129 & C9106 not C10135 & C9176 .These are the Alvis part nos for TE/TD heads ,the former means bigger valves ,more power etc ,all good which is presumabley why the TE has a different dizzy .I suggest you find a copy of the " Catalogue of Spare parts " for TD S11 & TE21, ebay usually has one or RT, it is a mine of info with all variants detailed/numbered including exploded drawings of the whole car down to the last split pin.All the bigger parts have a C no.stamped on them somewhere. The Alvis part no for a TE distributor is C10273 and the TD is C9401 Posted by Peter Martin 25/09/2012 08:50:57

Paul re copper HT leads I have had historic problems with the more sophisticated options, usually intermittent untraceable missing usually caused by internal breakdown, with copper wire the continuity is easier to check. Posted by Peter Martin 25/09/2012 09:01:47
