1949 ALVIS TA 14 Saloon    Ref:  2220    Date:  1/5/2024

“The Raine-bodied Alvis”

This literally unique car is for sale.

The full story of the car was published in Bulletin 585 (Sept/Oct 2020), and in a previous edition many years ago. It also features in the “Alvis TA14 50th Anniversary Collection” book.
Built by my family’s coach building company “H.Raine & Sons” in 1949, for the use of my uncle, with a body designed by him, the car has never left the family. I myself have been its custodian and campaigner for the last 50 years or so. The car was a frequent attender at AOC events in the 1980s, 90s and early 2000s, and won a few awards. Also a regular and successful entrant for over 30 years in the Beamish Trial, a reliability event in N.E. England.

The car is in very good condition, having been maintained and cared for over the years. The interior is original, apart from replacement carpets 40 years ago. The body has never been “restored” but has had work to keep it in sound condition. Our firm repaired the front wings, which were showing signs of corrosion; much of the chrome has been re-chromed; the exhaust is a stainless system; the wiring loom has been replaced; and the paint is not the original. All this work and more was done many years ago, but combines to give the car a remarkable and unique patina. The car runs and drives beautifully, and is always much admired.

There is much documentation present, including many items relating to its construction and history.

I would be happy to discuss things and answer any questions.

I am looking for someone who will look after and cherish this very special car into the future. I am asking for £18,000.00.

1925 12/50 TE De-luxe Tourer    Ref:  2222    Date:  1/5/2024

Car 9178, engine 7329, Cross and Ellis body. This vehicle is still to the original specification and is in good order with a recent MOT.

There are complete records going back generations that detail all major refurbishments that have taken place. (Always known as ARRABELLA)

I have kept an interest in Alvis since servicing my apprenticeship in the 1950's owning two vehicles at different times competing in hill climbs within VSCC both here and in France.
Health issues are now preventing further active ownership so my task now is to find a new home for Arrabella hopefully within the AOC.

The price of £27,500 is negotiable so as to secure her new home without too much delay.

1963 TD21 Series 2 DHC 1963    Ref:  2223    Date:  1/6/2024

Arguably the loveliest of all the Graber cars built by Park Ward, car, chassis and engine num 26943 in the original Brewster Green (a Bentley colour) has been in the hands of three families from new, with documentation to support the mileage 86,800 miles. A very original car, complete with the factory build sheet confirming it remains in the ex factory specification, including wire wheels, Motolita wood rim steering wheel, original Radiomobile pushbutton radio (now with concealed FM conversion) chrome badge bar and even the original locking antenna. It has the full synchromesh 5-speed ZF gearbox and disc brakes all round. It has a recent Red Triangle mohair convertible roof & cover with new West of England wool lining. The Stone Hide interior has its original aroma and patina with only some small areas being replaced to preserve originality.

Various subtle upgrades, all reversible have been made to eliminate the common overheating problems of these cars: Kenlowe electric fan, Red Triangle high performance radiator, 3-litre sealed expansion tank, fully recirculating fuel system with electric pump to keep fuel cool under the bonnet and improved heat shields to the twin SU carburettors.

Another external upgrade has been the adoption of MWS 6.5” wire wheels (chrome) with Pirelli P4000 radials which improve the handling greatly.

At 64,500 miles the engine was beautifully rebuilt by Alec McDonald using all Red Triangle parts. It starts and runs perfectly and uses no oil between changes.

The car is well known within the Alvis Owner Club, has been placed in several club concours competitions and also placed in the Circuit des Remparts Concours d’Elegance, Angoulème, France.

Asking price is £ 95,000.
