MOT Advisory - worn trunnion

At the latest MOT, my TE21 was given its first 'advisory' since being recommisioned a few years ago. There is slight movement in the upper offside trunnion. (Trunnion doesn't appear in VOSA's computer system, so examiner has to put it down as a balljoint, hmmm!) Is there any adjustment I can make to reduce the movement? If not, what parts will be required to correct this, and can anyone advise on the procedure?  I know this is only an advisory, but once you get a wear in suspension parts, the rate of wear tends to accelerate,  thanks Clive Posted by greg124 28/02/2013 10:00:00

Clive i was hoping someone else would answer this. There is no adjustment that I am aware of and  working on the front suspension of a 3 litre is really for the specialist firms and it will be expensive. If you would like me to talk you through some of the issues you may uncover please feel free to ring me. 01505 612637 Posted by Peter Martin 02/04/2013 15:05:20

Thanks Peter, I discussed this with Jack Clover when I bumped into him at a show recently, and am fairly confident of being able to tackle this myself. The only part which is slightly daunting is attempting to remove a part which has been on the car for 50 years. RT have quoted £170 plus VAT for a new trunnion, which doesn't surpise me. I may take you up on the offer when commencement is imminent Posted by greg124 20/04/2013 16:41:02

Clive The trunnion itself is generally easy to dismantle, provided you can get the 2 retaining cotter pins out. They can be can be difficult.  If you cannot get them out you will  have to remove the upper wishbone which is hard & will lead you to world of pain and frustration.Feel free to contact me direct Peter Posted by Peter Martin 21/04/2013 17:36:42
