TD21 Spark Plugs

I am steadily working through my TD21 before putting it back on the road and have found that it is fitted with NGK BP6ES plugs not the B6ES which seem to be recommended. It appears to run happily on them but I have not ventured far. Does anyone know if there could be a reason for this and whether it is necessary to change them? Thank you for any comments. Posted by Davenall 22/07/2012 07:03:38

I just did a search, and found this.... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=469734 It looks like just a projected insulator type, though I don't know what difference it would make, probably just fires further from the cylinder head face. Here is my experience on 2 TE's ,plugs are not dear to replace. I have been running two cars on BP6ES for a number of years. 1 car has done 12000miles in 3 years on Unipart items and they still look good & no missing. The second car ran 13000m in 3 years on NGK's before changing on mileage basis ,no probs ,since run 10200 in 4 yrs on Uniparts and 2 started to oil up when in town/going slowly, central electrode badly built up, replaced with 2 old NGKs problem went away so maybe time to change the lot.You might even get a trade discount from your local Unipart man if you plead poverty.
