Powder coating steel rims

I would appreciate the thoughts of members with respect to the powder coating of rims versus traditional acrylic enamel. My concern is whether powder coating chips easily especially where the wheel weights are fitted.   Richard Melbourne Posted by RichardWallach 04/05/2016 10:09:11

Hi Richard, I have only dabbled with powder coating once. I had my rear axle done. I did indeed find that it chips easily and also that the preparation was done poorly in my case leaving some rust in crevices which is obviously not a great idea. I'd steer clear, certainly for heavy and exposed items like wheels. It might be appropriate for parts that live somewhere away from the action, but I'd avoid it for wheels. I'd even be worried about levering off a hub cap from a powder coated wheel. Hope this helps.  Paul. Posted by pryantcc 09/05/2016 10:25:50
