I have cast aluminium water pump fitted to a later speed 20 engine and it's started weeping mainly through lack of use  In recent weeks. Can anyone tell me how these are sealed . Is it with some sort of ceramic material? Has anyone ever had one of these units repaired? I prefer to know the solution before removing it from the engine. Any information would be appreciated John worrell Posted by speed20 16/01/2019 14:28:38

There is a carbon washer in the end of it which provides the seal. You can buy a replacement seal from RT.  Sit down before they tell you the price. Don't ignore it though. If the seal gives up the ghost whilst you're out and about the car won't be driveable. Posted by Angus D'Arcy-Drake 22/01/2019 17:00:09

Don't buy seal from R.T.  Take the old one out by heating the bronze ring it is held in. If when it drops out the back side looks unworn, put it back in with the un worn face now outside.  If however is is broken or badly scored both sides get another one turned up by a local machinist. RT's price is just ridiculous! Posted by Delagiste 27/01/2019 19:52:47
