Hello,  Does anyone have experience of replacing the air filter? I was trying to fit some ram stacks with 'sock' type filters, to make some spave and to remove the big filter box, and also to improve breathing, however the hole centres on the carb flange are 2 1/4 inch (58mm) and no -one seems to have any that fit....lots of 2 inch flanges..  I have seen several cars with this mod, but dont know what they've used.  any advice gratefully received Posted by simhin 09/05/2017 10:48:05

Years ago my father experimented with his Speed 25 and in the end concluded that the best solution was to do away with the ugly old air box but keen the aluminium casting (which will polish beautifully).  He had a tube fabricated that attached to the two intakes on the aluminium casting, but faced forward with a gauze across the front to trap the flies.  He had to slow the tick-over down after doing this such was the improvement in how the car breathed. Are you interested in modifying the original Blundell Silencer to be an effective filter, or replacing it with a modern two filters system?  I've done both and will be happy to post pictures of both if I can remember how! Posted by johnlayzell 12/05/2017 22:06:58

Thanks for the advice,  I was hoping to ditch the old unit completely and replace with something else..its just that I cant find anything that fits the 'centres' of the bolt holes on the carb. Photos appreciated  Regards  Simon Posted by simhin 15/05/2017 07:37:15

OK, I have a total of 8 photos to post to show the two different alternatives I have tried. To begin I'm posting just one photo as it seems to be very large.  Can a reader advise how to reduce in size so I can post all 8?  [img:2w8xdl15]https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S8VSgqSX0PQ/WSIa9FXuJCI/AAAAAAAAAOA/IgvuPJL6bVEXYy3e2Th-OFzHZpRTIR5JgCLcB/s1600/Alvis%2BSP25%2Bair%2Bfilter%2B06.JPG[/img:2w8xdl15] Posted by johnlayzell 21/05/2017 23:16:31

More photos of the the two modern filter, and modified Blundell Silencer alternatives.  I now run the modified Blundell Silencer which obviously looks more period correct.  [img:q05eizmm]https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-obbJ7yNwM00/WSIa9UCMo7I/AAAAAAAAAOE/Ii-vUBSimX8-wjoexkQ9WfKTQhaG065awCLcB/s1600/Alvis%2BSP25%2Bair%2Bfilter%2B07.JPG[/img:q05eizmm]  [img:q05eizmm]https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zpjxo6XFe84/WSIa8KwntiI/AAAAAAAAANs/NnEv3kyGUfAUj70OZRU5mnitFdf4JiOrACLcB/s1600/Alvis%2BSP25%2Bair%2Bfilter%2B01.JPG[/img:q05eizmm]  [img:q05eizmm]https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pDfY2K-oIMI/WSIa8VsvU7I/AAAAAAAAANw/_Z3jitbPrnMp6sBkzzP9gvRPFg4xs4b1ACLcB/s1600/Alvis%2BSP25%2Bair%2Bfilter%2B02.JPG[/img:q05eizmm]  [img:q05eizmm]https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NiyGdhR4NX0/WSIa8o9A0CI/AAAAAAAAAN0/Jx_JgD6SWqQrXw4YYWcBJaXrKty7rUfugCLcB/s1600/Alvis%2BSP25%2Bair%2Bfilter%2B03.JPG[/img:q05eizmm]  [img:q05eizmm]https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1e1E0CFC9vQ/WSIa8mKH72I/AAAAAAAAAN4/wsC-Nh_5h3kJjVWFXhnuKO5DvZB6e1YQwCLcB/s1600/Alvis%2BSP25%2Bair%2Bfilter%2B04.JPG[/img:q05eizmm]  [img:q05eizmm]https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pl0tyREiQMg/WSIa9XqovoI/AAAAAAAAAOI/sDHu0ul0bfo6l8IkW-FCseERlYTbMMrNQCLcB/s1600/Alvis%2BSP25%2Bair%2Bfilter%2B08.JPG[/img:q05eizmm] Posted by johnlayzell 22/05/2017 16:14:59
