Speed Model mpg

Curious if anybody has conducted accurate mpg readings on their Speed model.  We've just returned from a 583 mile trip, mostly at cruising speeds of 50-60 mph, where I kept accurate records of fuel consumed, and frankly I'm shocked and embarrassed!  Before I share, and I will, can others opine? I monitor the consumption of my Speed 25 all the time.  When I first had it I was getting about 12 mpg but after having the carburetors set up professionally I now get 16-17, and on one trip up to North Yorkshire and back (about 400 miles) I achieved over 18. My Speed 20 SC tourer fully loaded on long runs on the Continent  gets around 18 mpg as I keep her off the motorways and trundle around  50mph. Hills and bends do very little to  dent it including over the Alpine and Pyrenean passes - Last year we got 18.5 travelling 2,500 miles through Finland/Sweden/Norway- If I use her on UK motorways cruising at 70/75 and generally hooning around the Leicestershire backroads its more like 10mpg . ( However I do have a high ratio (+11%) rear axle)  Simply put - as long as the jet heights are set properly its the inverse of the degree of right boot. Smiles per gallon is the true measure!
