Brake lining thickness?

The Speed 25 is due for new brake linings.  Can anybody advise the correct thickness for bonded linings?  Currently they are at 3-4 mm, but I suspect the linings are too hard for optimal braking.  With thanks! Posted by johnlayzell 19/04/2015 14:58:55

Thickness when new.. No idea.. at an estimate 8mm.  Soft compound will improve braking "power" at the expense of shoe life. Hard compound will give you excellent shoe life but will give poorer braking power unless you push the pedal harder!  I guess its down to how many miles do you do vs how frequently are you willing to adjust the brakes vs how good do you want the brakes to be/pedal pressure.  Personally when its time to change I am going soft compound as I dont do many miles (few 000 a year expected) and want good brakes.   Chris Posted by chhym 19/05/2015 12:20:19

Thanks, Chris!  You've confirmed my thoughts, and the softest linings I can find are on the agenda, Posted by johnlayzell 19/05/2015 12:32:34

A local shop is replacing the linings and asked the ID of the brake drums.  The rear left measured 354 mm and right 356.  Anybody know what they were new, and/or what minimum should be? Posted by johnlayzell 23/06/2015 22:12:59
