Toe out or toe in?

The Alvis handbook  says 1/8 - 1/4"  toe out, My Sp20 SC has a tad more and no complaints - handles nicely, weights up beautifully,  tyre wear is even but just a little vague in a straight line.   An old sage from the trade recently told me that the Alvis settings are plain wrong and I should run 1/4" toe in, claiming it will sharpen up the straight-line behaviour. As nobody has responded to this, I had a look in Nick Walkers 'Speed Models in Detail'. However although it gives a good list of specifications, things like tracking and camber angle are sadly not included. From my non-competitive use of cars, the only effect of incorrect tracking is uneven tyre wear, which you say you don't have. Normally a rear-wheel driven car would have toe-in and front-wheel drive, toe-out. Posted by bob.h 07/10/2015 18:05:25

Found a letter from Alvis to I think Wayne Brooks in the USA dated 1966.  That specifies between parallel and 3/16" toe out so maybe worth a try and bring the toe in a tad and see what the difference is.  Chris Posted by chhym 16/10/2015 21:59:59
