Rear axle bearings

I am trying to replace the bearings in the TC21/100 back axle in my car. I believe that is the same as fitted to all post war cars.
An article I have found on the website states: "The half shafts complete with taper roller bearings can be withdrawn, depending on the interference fit, or lack of it, of the bearings, in the axle tube ends."
I have undone the five bolts holding the retaining plate but haven't managed to make any progress at all in pulling out the half shaft.
Can anyone suggest what I should try?

Progress made. I undid the five nuts holding the bearing retaining plate to the end of the axle. To remove the bolts I had to cut off the heads. There was just enough room to put nuts between the brake back plate and the end of the axle. I was then able to thread bolts through those so they pressed against the inside edge of the hub. By slowly tightening those bolts the hub and haft shaft assembly eventually came out. I had to make up a spanner with a bend in the end to be able to hold the nuts as I tightened the bolts.
Now for the other side?
