New Firebird owner looking at how the oil filter works with plans to convert to modern paper filter. I have the plans for the filter adaptor but I was just wondering how the oil passageways work.
Does -
Oil from the pump goes via a pipe to the gauze oil filter compartment but does it enter through the centre of the filter?
So that if the filter becomes blocked the oil pressure lifts the filter against the sprung lid to bypass the filter?
Does it go to the outside of the filter and exit the filter in the centre like a modern paper filter?
The output feed of the filter compartment which tees to the gauge and the head, does that connect to the outside of the filter or the centre.
I can see the pressure release valve has a direct channel to the gauze filter compartment, does the excess oil go back into the sump via the block?
Bit difficult to see whats happening without dropping the sump which i'm reluctant to do.
