Brake Cables

Does anyone know a good source for Brake Cables, either in the UK or USA? My outer cables seem spongey with no sheathing left on them, just the armoured body. Posted by IanHardaker 23/07/2012 01:19:13

Ian, This is who the MG folk use: http://www.speedycables.com/cables.html Please post what you find. Good luck! Posted by johnlayzell 03/08/2012 11:34:36

Speedograph Richfield in Nottingham area replaced mine. Good job & no great expense. They require your old ones to reuse certain bits that are obsolete! I seem to remember that the outer sheathing was a slightly larger diameter than the original which involved delicate drilling out of the backplates - which I did in situ! Have fun, Hugh Westlake (Speed 20, SD) Posted by alvisspeed20 03/08/2012 13:30:47

I have experience of using both Speedy Cables (now in Abercrave Swansea) and Speedograph Richfield and would cheerfully recommend both. Both have web sites. You can ask for them to fit a grease nipple (use axle oil)in the middle of the cable but about 12" nearer to the cross shaft end to discourage too much oil getting into the drums. I am surprised that RT do not carry any already made up, I'm sure they used to. Phil Robertson 3861Wa Posted by Silver Eagle 17/08/2012 20:32:34

Speed 25. I have installed the replacement rear brake cables, starting at the rear brake drum end. I now find the cables are about 1" short at the front end. I have measured the new cables against the old cables and they are the same length. Am I right in assuming I should have attached the front end first and then worked on fitting the rear to the drums, etc? I have slackened off both wing nuts in the right engine bay as far as I can. I need to replace the brake cables on my Silver Eagle SG 16.95 but I have to remove the brake drums first. Please could someone give me the correct procedure for doing this job? The car is not much more than a rolling chassis at the moment so access to the mechanicals is not a problem. Thanks Andrew Posted by tf1695 30/09/2015 16:21:27

If the Silver Eagle cable braking system is similar to a Speed 25 system I can help you as I've just done that job. I have photos which may help. Feel free to email me at: johno8@aol.com Posted by johnlayzell 01/10/2015 16:49:55
