commission bidding at auction

I am interested in a vehicle coming up for auction but will be unable to attend in person. I have two choices, either telephone bidding which puts my bids in real time as the auction proceeds or placing a commission bid which the auctioneer will then bid up to on my behalf. Has anyone used this method to buy a classic car at auction and if so how was the experience? The cynic in me would expect the hammer price to be very close to my maximum bid.  Andrew Posted by tf1695 30/06/2015 14:46:49

Andrew - I have only one experience of absentee bidding.  I send in an absentee bidder's form with my maximum bid and a required deposit.  We were sent a video link to watch the auction live, which we did in front of the PC screen, with a couple of glasses of wine!  We were very pleased when the car sold at 18% lower than our maximum bid.  Good luck!
