hinge pin replacement

I originally posted this in the TA/TC21 forum but should have posted it here, as the type of hinge on my car looks identical to those of a TA14 and many of the pre-war models: The upper front door hinges on my TC21 (Mulliner body, TA21 style) are heavily worn. Can anyone advise on how to replace the hinge pins please and where to obtain new pins (and whether a reamer / oversize pins are likely to be required) please? On my car the hinges themselves are chromed and I would like to complete the task without ruining the chrome if possible and I am reluctant to try to press them out if there is a special trick here. Hi John, Can you post a picture of the hinge? Is it just a simple flat brass hinge which has been chromed?  If so, you should be able to either press or drive the pin out with a suitable drift. I don't know where you would get a replacement, but can't see it being difficult to make. Ream out the hinge, then get pins made up to match your reamer?  Regards, Paul. Hi Paul That sounds as though it should work. I have attached pictures - I am very slowly restoring the car, hence all the flaky paint, Regards Jon Posted by drdowhitt 20/07/2013 22:05:23

Thanks Alan. That sounds like a proper job; I don't have a lathe but will look into getting some pins made, Jon Posted by drdowhitt 27/07/2013 09:41:46
