pirelli cinturato

Youngtimer tires.com  this company is owned by Longstone but designed for international sales. I have purchased pirelli cinturato tyres for approximately £30 each less than anywhere else including Longstone and vintage. In North America tires have a DOT code on the sidewall.  The last 4 digits indicate the week and year of manufacture. So 2612 would indicate June, 2012.  Do tires in Europe follow the same format? Posted by johnlayzell 02/08/2014 14:51:24

yes, tyres in the Uk follow the same method of date stamping (at least for radials) - I am not sure that my SP25 crossplies have any such marking - but I would have to check to be certain.  Dave Posted by DaveT 04/08/2014 11:23:02

I'm not sure how much tyre age is important versus how they have been stored. However, the Vredesteins which I have purchased from Vintage Tyre Supplies have only been 1 or 2 months old which seems to be an advantage if tyres really have a limited life before they deteriorate to a dangerous state. I also doubt the pirelli cinturato are of the same quality rubber as earlier ones but I was running the tf on over 30 year old pirelli cinturato tyres so I think it possible that a higher priced tyre could possibly be a better quality compound of rubber too. Are these the Pirelli P5 Cinturato, 205/70/VR15s that I have on my Daimler Convertible? One was damaged in 2009 and we were unable to get any, so the car has two Dunlop ER/70/VR15s on the front (I used these on my everyday TD21 years ago). I would love to get some more Pirellis to balance the car up. The ER/70/VR15s were fitted on the standard Jaguar XJs and the Pirelli P5s were fitted on the top of the range 5.3 litre V12 cars.
