Visit the Alvis Owner Club stand at the NEC Classic Car show (8-10 November 2019).
The AOC will have a significant presence again at the largest classic car show in the UK, at the NEC, which takes place from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th November. The AOC stand is Stand 1-510.
As part of the Club’s presence at the Show, an Alvis which was laid up in 1972 will return to service for the Young Drivers Classic Car Loan Project . The car will be handed over for a 12 month loan to the nominated Young Driver on the Alvis Owner Club stand at the NEC Classic Car Show at 10.30am on Sunday 10th November.
At the NEC show in November 2018, the owner, Jack Meredith, who is based in Drumnadrochit , decided, with the support of the Alvis Owner Club (AOC), to put the Fourteen into the Young Driver Classic Car Loan Project sponsored by Peter James Insurance and project managed by Bob Wilkinson. The Project is designed to introduce younger drivers to classic motoring through a loan scheme supported by private owners and organisations. www.classiccarloanproject.co.uk
Alvis Fourteen, HAX 816 was registered by its first owner in Monmouth on the 19th May 1949. She is one of 1,782 cars of this model fitted with the 4 door Sports Saloon body by Mulliner.
5 owners, all based in Wales were recorded in the buff logbook before the car was laid up in 1972 with a reported mileage of 52,939.
The engineering and re-trimming work was orchestrated and in most cases carried out by Peter Milne. Peter is an Alvis expert based in Inverurie and also the current chairman of the Scottish section of the AOC. The car was the subject of a bare metal, body-off respray led by lecturer Darren Robertson and carried out by students on the Body and Paint Course at the North East Scotland College in Aberdeen as a training experience.
The objective of the project is to provide an opportunity for a younger generation to enjoy the rewards associated with restoring and driving a classic car including following the experiences that will be recorded on www.classiccarloanproject.co.uk and www.alvisoc.org in the forthcoming year.
If you are coming t the NEC, please come and say hello to all the volunteers on the AOC Stand.
