Fleet Air Arm establishment at Yeovilton
South West Section VIP visit to The Fleet Air Arm
Thirty Six AOC members thoroughly enjoyed what turned out to be most successful full day’s VIP visit to the Fleet Air Arm establishment at Yeovilton in Somerset. The visit was organised by committee member Steve White, ably assisted by his wife Bridget and son Andrew, a servicing officer in the Fleet Air Arm, and stationed at the Royal Navy base at Yeovilton.
Members were able to get up close and personal with many of the items of military equipment that were in the process of being serviced or were ready to be called for use in various locations around the world. A number of the more fit members were able to climb aboard one of the huge Merlin helicopters in one of the service hangers. After a first class lunch in the Officers mess we were split into three separate groups with an appointed expert guide and were treated to a personal tour of the famous Fleet Air Arm Museum.
