Cornish coffee morning and buffet lunch at the Fishermans Arms, Golant near Fowey.
A classic car gathering, not limited to Alvis cars, was held on Saturday 20th July at the home of Bruce Goodwin, Castledore near Fowey on the south coast of Cornwall. This was followed by a short drive down to the local pub on the Fowey estuary for a very nice buffet lunch. The weather was absolutely atrocious with virtually constant heavy rain and sea mist. Nonetheless twenty nine hardy souls arrived and we were able to move indoors for coffee and flapjacks. Normally we would stand around the cars and indeed some did stand in the garage chatting for an hour or so prior to our move to the pub.
Circumstances apart from the weather depleted the number of Alvis cars in attendance, so I was glad to have other cars along, including an Austin 7, Ford Model T, a 1925 Bean, and a Lancia Aurelia. The event was very convivial and food judged as excellent and very good value. The only mishap was when one unfortunate driver accidentally reversed over the side of the road at Golant grounding his car. This necessitated some handy work with a scaffolding pole to lever it off and onto the beach in order to extricate the car from a better position before the tide came in!
